GIVING BACK

SMOKE ALARM PROGRAM

From a Citizen: "Herb Griffin installed our replacement smoke alarms (ours were 13 years old). He was friendly, professional, competent, and answered our questions. We very much appreciate this service by the Meridian Fire Department - we are getting on in years and climbing ladders and reaching over our heads to work on smoke alarms is a bit risky for us anymore. Also, Herb's supervisor, Pam, initially responded to our phone call and was friendly, encouraging, and set up the visit by Herb.We have lived in many parts of the USA, and we are continually impressed by what a well-run city Meridian is, and how lucky we are to have settled here for our retirement years."

COLLECTION BINS AT STATIONS

Firefighter Dan Krenz leads efforts for Toys for Tots collection bins at each station. MFD also collects donations for the Meridian Food Bank. In 2018 the Meridian Food Bank bins, located at all 5 Meridian Fire stations, brought in over 6,000 lbs of food. We are so grateful to serve such a generous and caring community. Thank-you!

FIREFIGHTER STAIR CLIMB

Some members of the Meridian Fire Department participate in the Firefighter Stairclimb.  They raise money on their own time in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The LLS Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition, and is an annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center. All 2,000 participants are career or volunteer firefighters who will climb up the second tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi in full turnout gear, weighing over 50 pounds. All proceeds raised directly benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and since its inception in 1991, this event has raised over $17 million thus far.

HELP WITH SHOVELING SNOW

From a Citizen:  "I’m not sure of the exact date…a couple of weeks ago...I know it had just snowed enough to make life miserable….the residents at XXX West Claire Drive called for help, and as usual, an ambulance arrived along with a fire truck not far behind.  The EMT’s went in and did their work, and I’m guessing the fire fighters on the truck were left to wait.  And they waited quite nicely.  They took their own shovels off the truck and proceeded to clear off the snow covered driveway and walkway. That is well above and beyond the call…they did a good, nice and helpful thing.  We neighbors were talking today about the “event”, and were in total agreement that those firefighters should be told of our appreciation for their efforts.  I’m going to guess that shoveling snow at the home of two older ladies is not in their job description.  That’s what makes what they did, so much more thoughtful.  Kudos to your firefighters."
