DEPARTMENT INFO
The Meridian Fire Department was formed in early 1908 and started out fairly small serving only 600 residents at the time. In the early 1950’s, a partnership was formed with the Rural Fire Protection District to better serve and protect citizens in the City limits and the Rural area. This partnership has proven to be very beneficial to the City and the Rural Fire District and continues today. Today, 111 years since the Department started, we employ 90 active members and serve a population of more than 120,000 in the City and the District combined. The Department operates on a $12 million dollar budget. We have 5 stations, (construction on Station 6 starting this year), five first response engines and an aerial ladder truck, a Fire Safety Education Center, and training tower. Meridian Fire responded to 6,873 calls in 2018.
